Yes I did - every milestone that was coming up in my life (starting high school, getting driver's license, moving out on my own, getting married) was overshadowed with the thought of Armageddon coming at any time and me not being able to experience those things. I remember though when I learned of the generation change in 1995, instead of waking up (DUR!), I still believed it was the truth and I was RELIEVED because I thought it bought me more time. I didnt want armageddon coming. I didn't want to live in a JW paradise even though I believed it at the time.

Crazy JW chaperon Stories
by superman inthe jw's must not trust their members or at least don't have too much faith in them when it comes to being alone around member of the opposite sex.
i can remember one time in particular from when i was a teenager that still makes me laugh today.. when i was younger i used to go out in service on a regular basis during the week when i had summer break.
one time when i met for service there were only two other people that showed up.

worldly people would be stumbled because the didn't know we were brother and sister
Blondie that made me chuckle because I have heard JWs use that reasoning before. That is so ridiculous. "worldly people" couldn't care less seeing two people of the opposite sex driving around. I think they would be more stumbled seeing one in the front seat and the other in back 'looking like idiots' as somebody posted before.
It's no wonder that many JW kids were married when they were still teenagers.

Birthdays vs. Baby Showers
by The Missus inin the mind of a jw, why is there such a difference between celebrating someone's birthday from year to year and celebrating the actual day they were born, or celebrating that day a few weeks earlier or later in the form of a baby shower?
when i was a jw and a sister was in the hospital with her new baby we would go up to visit and bring gifts for the baby, in essence, celebrating that baby's birthday.
when i was in i never thought about it, but now i want to know!

Hi Zid - I am a frequent reader of this site but not a poster since I usually can't think of anything enlightening to add! Not DFd or DAd, just started fading about 6 years ago.
Thanks for that link Blondie - very interesting
Isaac - I like that reasoning, will be using that when this topic comes up with my JW family

When I was in I never thought about it, but now I want to know! If they don't celebrate birthdays, then they should not celebrate birthdays. period.

Only Jehovah's Witnesses . . . . . The Arrogant Quote Collection
by nicolaou ini ran a search on my wt cd for the phrase "only jehovah's witnesses".
there were dozens of results, these are some of the more .

Thanks nic! Very interesting to read those all together. I knew those phrases were out there in the literature. When I was a JW, I remember reading phrases like that and feeling very embrarrassed - embarrassed by what other people would think, that weren't JWs, reading stuff like that.

I take that back the closest I got to Christmas as a JW was when they cancelled the meeting altogether because of the weather. It doesn't get any better than that!

I agree it was the closest I got to Christmas as a JW! But once, the speaker did show up about 1/2 way thru the WT study so he gave his talk after. What a huge letdown

"We missed you at the meeting"
by tresdecu ini have grown to hate this statement with a a passion.
as an ms i vowed never to say it, because it never really sounded caring.
it was just a subtle guilt trip.. anyway...my reason for starting this thread is that a 'bible study' i know, (who i am aquianted with other than him being a b.s.

One day in FS, an elder said to another elder, 'Let's go by and visit them.
um yah - that's another thing that irritates me. If you are going to get a visit because you were "missed" at the meetings, 99% chance the visit is going to come while the brother/sister is in field service or making shepherding calls. They usually will not take from their free time just to stop by and see how you are doing.
